Five Humanitarian Pillars

Integrated Programs that Save Lives
and Build Futures

DOS-E operates across four core sectors, each addressing a critical need in South Sudan. Our multi-sectoral, integrated approach ensures that when we treat hunger, we also fix the water and health issues that cause it.

Health and Nutrition

Pillar 1

Health & Nutrition

Our Health and Nutrition pillar is about saving lives through medical intervention and building a future where every child in South Sudan can grow strong and healthy.

  • CMAM: Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition using MUAC screening, OTP, and Stabilization Centers
  • Maternal & Child Health: Prenatal care, immunization, deworming, and Vitamin A supplements
  • IYCF: Mother-to-Mother support groups and complementary feeding education
  • Integrated WASH & Nutrition: Hygiene kits, clean water access, and kitchen gardening for malnourished families
WASH Program

Pillar 2

Water, Sanitation
& Hygiene (WASH)

In South Sudan, water is the first line of defence. Our WASH strategy prioritizes innovation, local ownership, and integration with health and food security.

  • Water Supply: Borehole drilling & rehabilitation, solar-powered pumping systems
  • Sanitation: Gender-segregated institutional latrines and Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS)
  • Hygiene Promotion: Handwashing campaigns, hygiene kits, Menstrual Hygiene Management
  • Kitchen Gardens: Established around water points to ensure zero water waste
Food Security and Livelihoods

Pillar 3

Food Security &
Livelihoods (FSL)

Our FSL programs are designed to move communities from emergency aid to sustainable self-reliance, increasing local production and protecting the assets of the most vulnerable.

  • Agricultural Support: Drought-resistant seeds, farming tools, climate-smart training
  • Livestock & Veterinary: Vaccination campaigns and fisheries support kits
  • Vocational Training: Tailoring, carpentry, and small-business skills for youth and women
  • Income Generating Activities: Micro-enterprise start-up kits and grants
Protection Programs

Pillar 4

Protection

Our Protection programs are the "shield" for the most vulnerable members of South Sudan's society, ensuring humanitarian aid is delivered safely, with dignity, and without discrimination.

  • General Protection: Monitoring, legal support, documentation, and disability inclusion
  • Child Protection: Case management, Family Tracing & Reunification, Child-Friendly Spaces
  • GBV Prevention & Response: Survivor support, dignity kit distribution, community sensitization
Education and Innovation

Pillar 5

Education & Innovation

We are developing a new generation of programs that bridge the gap between emergency aid and long-term economic expansion — equipping South Sudan's youth and displaced communities with skills that last a lifetime.

  • Digital Literacy: Mobile computer labs bringing foundational digital skills to remote and underserved communities
  • Vocational Skills for Youth: Tailoring and carpentry workshops specifically designed for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
  • Economic Pathways: Structured transition from emergency relief to self-reliance through skills-based income generation
